It took five years for twenty students of the Royal College of Needlework, to compete this tapestry record of Operation Overlord. The events of this World War II invasion of Europe have been worked in embroidery to a design by Miss Sandra Lawrence. The thirty-three panels of the tapestry are now permanently housed in a special exhibition at the D Day Museum in Southsea.
Immediately below is a short video about the Overlord Embroidery and how it came to be made. It runs for about three minutes.
